Context

Setting a significant example of Atmanirbhar Bharat, the Ministry of Defence and Bharat Electronics Limited signed a contract in order to procure an advanced Electronic Warfare suite of fighter aircraft for the Indian Air Force.

Details

  • The Electronic Warfare suite has been indigenously designed and developed by DRDO.
  • The Electronic Warfare supply will enhance battle survivability of IAF fighter aircraft while carrying out operations against the ground-based airborne fire control and surveillance radars adversaries.

INAS 316

Context

INAS 316 has been commissioned by the Indian Navy and is considered the second long-range maritime reconnaissance (LRMR) air squadron. 

About INAS (Indian Naval Air Squadron) 316

  • The commissioning took place at INS Hansa in Goa. 
  • INAS 316 will operate the second batch of four P-8I maritime patrol aircraft fleet from the US-based Boeing company. 
  • The P-8I aircraft will be deployed to detect, deter and destroy threats in the Indian Ocean Region. 
  • P-8I aircraft is powered by twin jet engines and has the capacity to be equipped with air-to-ship missiles and torpedoes. 
  • The P-8I multi-mission aircraft will carry out a wide range of operations that include anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, search and rescue, intelligence and surveillance and reconnaissance. 
  • INAS 316 has been nicknamed ‘The Condors’ which is derived from the name of the largest flying land bird. 
  • Therefore, it is a welcoming step towards expanding the combat capability offering better management of complex security situations. 
  • The Squadron has been developed to effectively enhance India’s ability to protect, preserve and promote maritime interests.

National Land Monetization Corporation (NLMC)

Context

The Union Cabinet has approved the setting up of the National Land Monetization Corporation as a wholly-owned Government of India company. 

What would be the role of NLMC?

  • It will undertake the monetization of surplus land and building assets of Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) and other agencies of the government. 
  • This proposal for setting up the NLMC was announced during the Budget session for 2021-22. 

Objectives of NLMC

  • NLMC will aim at undertaking professional and orderly monetisation of land and other non-core assets referred to it. 
  • It will also advise and assist government departments, statutory bodies, authorities and corporations on the monetisation of surplus and underutilised non-core assets. 
  • It is up with the objective of identifying surplus land and building assets to create an inventory for monetisation in consultation with CPSE/other government agencies. 
  • It will act as a repository of best practices in land monetisation, assist and provide expert technical advice in the implementation of asset monetisation programs. 

Incorporation of NLMC

  • The incorporation of NLMC is underway which is administered by the Department of Public Enterprises, Ministry of Finance.
